NSO Success Story
Having nowhere else to go, Miss S. came to NSO’s Tumaini Center for shelter. She arrived late at night, after being forced out the Adult Foster Care home which was both her employer and residence.
That next morning, a caring and supportive NSO mental health professional referred Miss S. to an outside resource involved with supportive living placements. The outside referral coordinated an interview for Miss S. that day for employment as a live-in direct care worker at another Adult Foster Care home. The consumer was given the job and moved in the same day.
This story illustrates the success NSO has on a regular basis working with individuals who are not chronically homeless. Although we focus on individuals with mental illness and substance abuse, we will work with anyone who is recently homeless to get them back on their feet and prevent the downward spiral into chronic homelessness.
