The mission of the NSO Tumaini Center is to be an open door to those in need. The NSO Tumaini Center assists the homeless in gaining the maximum services available from substance abuse and mental health treatment, and other social service agencies and network sources.

NSO's NSO Tumaini Center provides substance abuse prevention services, mental health referral services, education, crisis intervention and referral services for individuals who are homeless or disenfranchised.

NSO's Addiction Treatment Services (ATS) provides an array of drug-free substance abuse prevention and treatment services for individuals and families. Individuals with addiction to problem gambling, alcohol, heroin, cocaine and other drugs are treated on an outpatient basis.

Striving to improve mental health and quality of life for senior adults

Older Adult Services (OAS) is a nationally recognized mental health program for Wayne and Oakland county residents age 60 and over and for adult nursing home residents age 18 and over. This is the oldest and largest mental health and aging program in the state.

The mission of OAS is to provide mental health outreach, residential and advocacy services, and to help older adults reach their maximum potential and remain active community participants.

Reaching out to support grandparents faced with the challenge of raising their grandchildren

Project GUIDE provides support services and resources for grand parents who face the unexpected challenge of raising their grandchildren.

Project GUIDE provides specialized respite care (community-based, short-term rest or relief from day to day care giving demands), recreational opportunities and retreats, weekly support meetings and family life education (strategies and techniques to improve family dynamics and communications) to grandparents and grandchildren.

The mission of NSO's Life Choices is to provide services and support for children and adults with developmental disabilities, and to their extended families, ensuring that those served remain in the least restrictive and most integrated community setting.

Life Choices provides services, support and a central access point for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their extended families. Life Choices staff also advocates on behalf of individuals, secures resources and provides intermittent lifelong support services so individuals may live as independently as possible.

Reaching out to problem gamblers and their families

The Gambling Treatment Program works in collaboration with the NSO Emergency Telephone Service / Suicide Prevention Center to operate the statewide Problem Gambling Help-Line (1-800-270-7117) and provides therapeutic services to compulsive gamblers and their families. The Problem Gambling Help-Line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Through the Help-Line a consumer may receive a referral to a trained treatment provider.

The mission of the Gambling Treatment Program is to provide comprehensive treatment services to compulsive gamblers and their families.

The Harper Gratiot Multi-Service Center (HGMSC) provides a variety of social services in one location. Non-NSO services located on-site include: Women, Infants & Children Program (WIC), Healthy Start-East, V.I.S.I.O.N., Inc., a program that helps people locate affordable housing. On the first floor, United Children & Families Head Start Delegate Agency has its administrative office and Head Start Center.

Empowering parents as their child's first teacher

The mission of the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program is to help parents empower themselves as their children's first teachers by giving them the tools, skills and confidence they need to work with their preschool children at home. The program was designed to bring families, organizations and communities together and remove barriers to participation, including limited financial resources or lack of education.

EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SERVICE & SUICIDE PREVENTION CENTER

Saving and improving lives through communication.

The mission of Emergency Telephone Service/Suicide Prevention Center (ETS/SPC) is to provide 24-hour telephone crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and information and referral services.

NSO's Emergency Telephone Service/Suicide Prevention Center has provided free telephone assistance to persons in crisis since 1978. Caring professionals offer counseling for individuals experiencing mental health, substance abuse or other interpersonal problems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ETS/SPC also has an outreach component which consists of critical incident stress management, speaker presentations and trainings on suicide prevention and crisis intervention.
