Reaching out to support grandparents faced with the challenge of raising their grandchildren

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of PROJECT GUIDE is to provide support services and resources for grandparents who face the unexpected challenge of raising their grandchildren.

PROJECT GUIDE provides specialized respite care (community-based, short-term rest or relief from day to day care giving demands), recreational opportunities and retreats, weekly support meetings and family life education (strategies and techniques to improve family dynamics and communications) to grandparents and grandchildren.

PROJECT GUIDE welcomes families where grandparents, foster parents or relatives are raising children who are at least two generations younger than themselves. Services are provided to participants free of charge.

  • Regular support meetings provide opportunities to meet others in the same situation and share ideas, thoughts and feelings.
  • Family life education offers strategies and techniques to improve family dynamics and communication. Additional trainings in substance abuse awareness, academic and health issues and other pertinent topics is also provided.
  • Family participation in cultural events and activities.
  • Help with accessing human service resources, legal services and transportation.
  • Transportation and day care is provided during the meetings.
