Empowering parents as their child's first teacher
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program is to help parents empower themselves as their children's first teachers by giving them the tools, skills and confidence they need to work with their preschool children at home. The program was designed to bring families, organizations and communities together and remove barriers to participation, including limited financial resources or lack of education.
The HIPPY program strives to provide resources for the parents and children (materials, instruction, encouragement, motivation, acknowledgment), and believes that every child should have access to high quality education regardless of their social, economic, and cultural background. HIPPY seeks to address the needs of the families while fostering collaboration with the community.
HIPPY is a 30-week home-based early childhood program for three-, four- and five-year-old children born on or before December 1. The program has activities for parents and their children with a schedule that coincides roughly with the school year. The program uses trained coordinators and community-based home visitors that visit homes and role-play activities with the parents and support each family through their participation in the program.
